The 1st and 2nd Prize winners of the 30th A. Casagrande International Piano Competition Play on SK-EX

The 30th Alessandro Casagrande International Piano Competition was held in Terni and Rome, Italy from May 15th to 25th 2014. At the competition, two Chinese pianists who played on SK-EX won the 1st and 2nd prizes.

A.Casagrande International Piano Competition started in 1966 in honor of the Italian Maestro Alessandro Casagrande, and is one of a few international piano competitions in Italy to be a member of The World Federation of International Music Competitions. It is no exaggeration to say that the result at the honorable competition is the brilliant achievement that proves the surpassing quality of Kawai’s full concert piano SK-EX.

Jia Zhichao Julian,
Jia Zhichao Julian, a Chinese young talented pianist, performed on SK-EX and won the 1st prize of A. Casagrande International Piano Competition. He was also awarded the three other special prizes below;

  • Critics Award (Awarded by the Critics)
  • IUC SAPIENZA Award (Awarded by a Jury formed by the students of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”)
  • Audience Award (Awarded by the audience of the final round on 24th May)

The preliminary rounds took place at the auditorium “Sergio Secci” in Terni city, and the final round, consisting of the 1st performance of piano quintet and the 2nd of piano concerto, followed at the main auditorium of La Sapienza University in Rome.

As one of the official pianos for the competition, the SK-EX was provided by Furcht & C. Spa, Kawai distributor in Italy. Its quality was highly evaluated by many other contestants as well. In fact, 24 contestants out of 64 chose the SK-EX for their first round. That is not only because of the quality of the SK-EX itself but also the excellent job by Arimune Yamamoto, Kawai’s skillful technician MPA, who made it perfect condition and satisfied the contestants.

Yuan Jie, a Chinese promising pianist, also performed on SK-EX and won the 2nd prize as well as the two other special prizes below.

  • “Dario De Rosa” Award for the best performance in chamber music
  • “Annarosa Taddei” Award for the best performance of a Beethoven Piano Sonata
